This might already usurp Breath of the Wild as my favorite game ever. Everything in this game is marvelous, perfect. I actually tried to think of something to criticize, but I come up short. I literally do not have any criticism for this game. In a lot of ways, it actually does it better than Breath of the Wild. The Wind Waker obviously suffers from the limitations of its time, but it is very clearly aiming to be a systemic open world adventure, which Breath of the Wild delivers on. Really, I'm not joking: it's a full open world, with a full fledged physics system, combat allows alternate weapons, you can glide, even the art styles are more alike here than any other game in the series I have played so far. In fact, The Wind Waker now makes me wonder why Breath of the Wild came 15 years after it, since TWW basically laid down all the groundwork all the way back in 2002. They're two completely different and distinct style of games.
Very honestly, until Majora's Mask, it has been difficult to see how the series actually evolved into what BOTW is. One interesting thing about me going through the rest of the series after first playing Breath of the Wild, while knowing nothing about the older games, has been seeing how the games evolved over time, and how they led into Breath of the Wild. All of this is to say I have so far enjoyed each subsequent Zelda game less than the one I played right before it. I appreciated Majora's Mask, though I personally did not enjoy large parts of it. Fair warning: this thread will have a lot of gushing and hyperbolic praise.
